SUMMARY:Big Beautiful Bruce Brown Benefit
DESCRIPTION:Cancer Benefit for CCM Music Journalist Draws Fans and Friends From Across the U.S. \n  \nAugust 9th Private Live Stream Music Event + In-Person Pre-Show Gathering in Nashville\n  \nNashville Music Industry Gathers to Host the Big Beautiful Bruce Brown Benefit\n  \nNASHVILLE\, TN – On August 9\, friends and fans will gather online and at The Well Coffee Shop in Nashville Green Hills at 7 pm CST for a streaming music benefit  to raise funds and spirits for retired music journalist\, Bruce Brown.  \n  \nBrown has been diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer – mylelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) – that is causing him to travel for treatments. A GoFundMe campaign has been created for Brown to raise much needed funds.  More information may be found at: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-bruce-battle-rare-blood-cancer \n  \nThe Big Beautiful Bruce Brown Benefit\, as it is being named\, is being produced by True Tunes\, also based in Nashville\, and is being organized by a cadre of Brown’s friends and industry associates\, along with Lipscomb University student workers. Artists currently confirmed to perform include: Jimmy A\, Bob Bennett\, The Choir\, Eddie DeGarmo\, Rob Frazier\, Dan Haseltine\, Glenn Kaiser\, Phil Keaggy\, Phil Madeira\, Kevin Max\, Charlie Peacock\, Dave Perkins\, River & Rail\, Mike Roe\, Russ Taff\, Chris Taylor\, Ojo Taylor\, Terry Taylor\, Michelle Lynn Thompson\, and The Throes and will include special non-musical appearances by Amy Grant as well as other artists and industry friends. \n  \nA graduate of the University of Missouri and resident of Fredericksburg\, Virginia\, Brown has had an expansive career working in the music industry as both a technical and creative contributor especially in support of faith-fueled music.  Brown’s extensive curriculum vitae includes music journalism (CMT Television\, Musicforce\, CCM)\, artist management (Rick Altizer\, Ceili Rain\, Fleau and No Apples for Adam)\, Managing and Contributing Editor (CCM Magazine\, 7Ball)\, IT Specialist (Voice of America)\, Studio Engineer (ABC News) and retail advertising/marketing. Now retired\, Brown continues to grow his vinyl collection and works on various projects including co-producing the monthly True Tunes Podcast. \n  \nNotes longtime friend\, True Tunes producer and event ringmaster\, John J. Thompson\, “We are all looking forward to joining together to help support and encourage our friend for this once-in-a-lifetime event. There are a lot of people in our musical community who love this guy for all that he is and all that he has done for the CCM industry and artists. When I was very young and had some decidedly ‘out-of-the-box’ ideas about music\, culture and connecting with an audience\, Bruce was one industry insider I could always count on for sound advice and encouragement. The opportunity to work with him so closely these last five years on the podcast has been one of the true blessings of my life. Everyone needs a Bruce in their life.” \n\nBesides Thompson\, the other producers of the concert are long-time Brown associate and former CCM magazine editor\, Kathleen Ervin\, alongside artist manager/fellow journalist\, Mark Hollingsworth and his staff of Josh Kato and Kaelyn Rozgony.  \n  \nThe event will be streamed live via a private link that will be sent to donors in exchange for a suggested donation of $10 or more to Brown’s GoFundMe campaign. Donors will also receive a free download of the event poster\, designed by Jay Smith of Juicebox Designs.  To sign up for the event\, please visit True Tunes at https;//www.truetunes.com/BruceBenefit.  \n  \nPRIVATE INVITES TO THIS LIVE STREAM EVENT will be emailed to individuals who email requests and provide evidence (screen shots\, etc) that they have donated to Bruce’s GoFundMe campaign. *NOTE: We don’t need to know how much you donated – just that you donated something. We suggest a minimum donation of $10. Email your request to:

SUMMARY:We Still Believe (Artist & Songwriter Music Business Workshop Launch)
DESCRIPTION:We Still Believe: Artist and Songwriters’ Music Business and Marketing Workshop \nSaturday\, May 30th\, 10am – 3pm \nEast Nashville (private address provided upon registration) \n$75 – Discounted to $50 (includes lunch) for the first 15. \nLimited to 15 Seats \nWhat We Will Cover: \n\nHow to FULLY monetize your compositions and recordings\n\nRegistering with PROS (ASCAP\, BMI\, etc) and navigating splits\, conflicts\, differences\, etc.\nTaking advantage of Sound Exchange\, the MLC\, and other organizations that help artists and writers collect royalties.\nHow do Producer Points work in the streaming era (and how could they)\n\n\nHow is Artificial Intelligence impacting the business of independent and developing artists? Can we AI-proof ourselves and our careers? (And are there new tech-based tools that might help us accomplish our human-based artistic goals in ways we could not just a couple of years ago?)\nHow can independent or developing artists find an audience in today’s algorithmically driven industry? How has “Social Media” redefined the artists-audience dynamic? And what about playlists\, podcasts\, and people actually BUYING music? We will talk specifics – and provide space and time for you to DO the stuff we discuss (with other artists.)\nWhat else is on YOUR list to discuss?\n\nDeveloping negotiation skills and understanding contracts?\nFinding and applying constructive feedback as you develop?\nHow does “networking” work in an online world? (and do I care?)\nUnderstanding budgeting\, business expenses\, and tax issues related to your work?\nWhat is the best way to distribute your music?\nWhen and how should an attorney be called? What do they charge?\nShould indie songwriters be paid (and paying) each other mechanical royalties for co-written songs on indie releases that are making no money? What are the pros and cons? What happens if a song breaks through?\n\n\n\nAnd while I\, “Professor Thompson\,” am the Director of Music Industry Studies at Lipscomb University\, this time will be much more interactive than lecture-based. We expect the room to be full of working artists and writers with their own perspectives\, stories\, and wisdom. Expect a structured and focused conversation informed and directed by many voices and guided with intention by someone who wants to see everyone in the room thrive. We won’t have time to fully explore everything in our first 5-hour meeting\, but we will cover 2-3 things in depth\, we will generate a comprehensive list of topics for future gatherings\, and everyone WILL leave with a TANGIBLE product: an electronic workbook with links\, resources\, and an action plan to help them make progress toward their own personal goals for their music. \nExpect to learn a lot\, to come away empowered and directed\, and to meet new friends who are as serious about taking their craft and business to the next level as you are. \nWe believe music still matters. We believe there is a heart still beating here. And while the music industry continues to grow and expand\, raking in more money than ever before\, many artists and writers have resigned themselves to a life on the outside of the “content machine” that shares in most of that growth. We believe that revenue growth in music shows that people still value this stuff. Songs are still worth something. And while money has never been WHY most of us make music\, it is HOW we do. Come learn with us and explore what might be a world of new opportunities. \nWe still believe. \n-JJT \n  \nNote: This first gathering will also explore (and define) the mission and scope of an ongoing monthly gathering like this. We are developing a full curriculum and agenda\, and the attendees of this first meeting will play a major role in shaping it. We also expect future events to have higher monthly registration costs\, but those who attend the first one will lock in a lower rate for the first year as a member of the founding cohort. Members of this group will also have access to additional one-on-one consulting time for a greatly discounted rate if needed or desired.
