Sean D. Senior aka Demetrus, Dwayne Petty aka Pettidee, and J.E. Cooper aka B.B.Jay, or 3 the God Way, offer their first album.
The self-titled project is a collaboration of three very different
hip-hop styles, creating a sound that is energetic and strong. Pettidee
brings the Krunk to the table and Demetrus fuses smooth R & B with
hip-hop. The mission behind this collaboration is to reach an urban
audience possibly overlooked by traditional ministries. Special guests
Bonafide of Grits and Thrill da Playa add their presence to the mix and
the result is raw and cranking, as the best hip-hop is.
Listen
to the whole CD and you’ll come away with a sense of history; all 3
share enough of their stories that you get a strong sense of their
mission. Their love for God comes across as an urgency that flavors
each song. “Klap Ya Hands” will get you up and worshipping, as will the
smoother “Praise You.” You’re gonna hear some materialistic references
and even some language. I have no problem with that if it aids in
getting that message across, and 3 the God Way succeeds in that, to my
mind. If they’re weak in any area, it might be lyrically. They may need
to punch up some of their rhymes. “Good Thang” extols the virtuous
woman and “Can’t Go Back” contains some honest and powerful commentary
that just might make a difference. Mission accomplished, I’d say. |
